From the moment you are born, you receive social mandates that tell you how to handle yourself. Your family, school, the media, and even advertising give you guidelines about right or wrong according to your age, gender, social status, etc. You receive many messages about how your reality should be, which is very overwhelming. That makes you feel disoriented in certain circumstances and ask yourself: “What should I do with my life?
If you don’t know how to go, take a deep breath and relax. Several psychological studies affirm that this challenging situation is a valuable opportunity to get to know yourself and improve your perspective.
Focus on yourself
You don’t know what to do with your life because you feel lost in a particular circumstance. You must first understand that you are not in this situation; therefore, you must direct your energy to knowing yourself better. Inquire about your desires, goals, and priorities. The most important thing is to establish what you are willing to do and what you are not to do to face a new life that is in tune with your essence.
You can only create or help others if you are in the best position. My favorite quote about this is that ¨you cannot give what you are not¨. How can you create a business or improve in any field if you survive?
You feel disoriented in life, and worst of all, you feel guilty about it. You say to yourself: “I have no idea what to do with my life,” and you think it’s happening to you alone. The reality is that all human beings have gone through this situation. Psychologists and psychiatrists say that this personal circumstance is expected, so you should not feel guilty. Respect your feelings and work to transform that negativity. Accept yourself as you think because that is the key to finding yourself again. You will soon discover what you need to change and achieve it.
Many ancient religions used to see the human body as a temple. It is sacred, and it must be treated with respect. What you are on the inside, you are on the outside. This means that you must treat your physical and mental body well. It’s your greatest asset and the one that requires the most attention.
Manage your emotions
You are experiencing an intense emotional state, so you should avoid making crucial decisions. Avoid anger or acting impulsively because you could hurt yourself. What you can do right now is go for a walk, listen to your favorite music or write down everything you are feeling right now. That will clear your mind and balance you internally. The key is to find yourself, and for that, you need to be calm and at peace with yourself.
Some people say that emotions do not exist, only in our minds. The most significant challenge humans have on this planet is to learn how to manage their feelings. They are the reason why we die and stop evolving. This is a game you are playing against yourself. Dont let an imaginary trick ruin your life. Emotions are first created with our vocabulary. Choose wisely how you speak about yourself.
Prioritizing the present
You don’t know what to do with your life because you are going through a circumstance that puzzles you, and you think you can’t overcome it. That is not true; you have the inner power to take back control of your life. You feel sad and disillusioned because of negative events in the past that led you to feel bad now. The solution is to put your full attention on the present time, as you control entirely what is happening to you here and now. You have the inner strength to design the life you want to live from now on.
All there is now. The best time to do something is now. Live directly to the fullest; if you keep letting your emotions control you, your past will be your present and your present your future. This is why most people get bored and lose momentum because they let the anxiety of the past and the fear of the future control them.
Although you are living in a situation where you don’t know which path to choose, you should know that you have reason to be grateful. Look around you, and you will find positive aspects of your life: you have a house, food, good health, friends, pets, etc. Feel grateful for all the good things that are already in your life. Sincere gratitude activates your inner resources to feel good about yourself even if you are going through a difficult time. Appreciation drives away negative emotions such as anxiety, fear, or sadness. You begin to feel good and project positivity in your external world.
Thank everything in your life. When you learn how to thank even your desires, your brain will make them a reality. Refrain from sabotaging your future by overthinking what happens in your life. Everything has a reason for being, even if you don’t want to see it that way; by thanking that situation and letting it go, it loses its power.
Once you feel strong inside, you can take action and apply the necessary changes in your life to make it meaningful to you again. Set priorities, set goals that matter deeply to you, and work to make things happen. Take all the time you need but remember to move forward at least one step daily. Remember that not knowing what to do with your life can lead you to experience the reality you truly want to live.
Now you are experiencing an opportunity for inner growth, be inspired by the fabulous changes that will happen in your life.
Learning and reading are great weapons for this change. The more you know, the better decisions you can take.
So feeling lost in life is a temporary state
So remember that everything that goes down must eventually go up. That feeling of loss is a temporary feeling that needs gratitude and clarity. You feel this way because you are preparing to live a new stage; this moment is necessary. When you are in this situation, the best thing you can do is to remember that you won’t feel lost forever; the sun eventually comes out. Remember that everyone feels this way and that you are not alone in this process, talk to someone, go to a new place, and get distracted. Appreciate things as they are because they all serve a purpose.
